J. Federman is a designer, painter and engraver. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he is graduate of ESDI, the School of Industrial Design, of the State University of Rio de Janeiro. His professional career has been in field of communications. He holds a Master's degree in the Science of Art (the Institute of Art and Social Communication of the Universidade Federal Fluminense) and a Ph.D. in the History of Science and Technology and Epistemology of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Federman is currently a member of the faculty of UFRJ's School of Communication, teaching undergraduate courses in graphic design and digital art in the School's Electronic Publishing Lab. Since 1987, has exhibited his studio work - paintings and litographs - in galleries in major cities around the country.
